What better way to celebrate your birthday in the summer, than with a beach theme cake.
All pieces of this cake are edible. The chocolate shells are homemade and the sand is a mix of cookies and crown sugar.

What do you do when there is a second Pokemon cake for the same person??? Obviously, you will want to create something totally different. The mom gave an idea of want she wanted and told me that her son's favorite Pokemon were, Charizard, Lucario and Yveltal. But have you ever taken a look at these pokemon??? Let me tell they are not simple like Pikachu. There was no way I would have been able to make a figure out of fondant that would look anything like these characters. The only way I saw a possibility of incorporating these characters in edible fondant would be to make them 2 dimensional. I thought of printing the Pokemon on rice paper and just sticking it on the cake, but I felt that it would have been a cop-out on my part (the only way I would be doing that was if it what I wanted went terribly wrong). Here is the result: After making any fondant pieces, a good idea is to dry them so they are hard and stay hard. There are many methods to do this, I'll give you the 2 I use. The first method is to let them air dry, this method takes anywhere from 1 day to even a week (depending on the thickness of the fondant). The other method it a food dehydrator. Place the pieces on paper towels or parchment paper then place in the dehydrator and turn it on. It can stay there for a couple of hours (the most i had them in for was like 3 or 4 hours). Don't get scared when you check on them ad they are very soft. They only stay soft while warm, the moment they get cold they will become extremely hard. If the pieces are to tall for you dehydrator, just place plastic wrap over the top. Now that you saw the cake, let me tell you about my mishap.
I finished the cake on Friday night, and it was going to be picked up on Saturday at twelve. I finished the cake and everything looked perfect, all the pieces were up, and holding up well. I went to bed confident that everything would still be perfect in the morning... boy was I wrong. When I woke up on Saturday morning (at 7), one of Charizard's wings had fallen off!!!! Let me tell you that I almost cried, what the hell was I supposed to do??? How would I be able to fix it before pick up time???? I couldn't just leave off the cake. If I made a new one would it dry on time??? Would it break again??? My anxiety was through the roof. So with my brother's help I made a new one, put in the food dehydrator and prayed!!! OH, did I pray. At 11:30 the new Charizard was on the cake and ready to go. The only question remaining was if it would stay on without breaking??? I am happy to announce that it did not break again. It made it to the party and everyone was happy!!! YAY for us... Was asked to make a Pokemon Cake, and what says Pokemon better than Pikachu and a Poke Ball!!! The cake was vanilla filled with chocolate mousse. The Pikachu was made with fondant. Stay tuned for more cakes to come...
Over time we have made many cakes, and to make a post about every single one now would take forever so I give you a slide show... OMG my first post!!! My name is Ana and I'm so happy to be sharing this experience with everyone. Growing up I was surrounded by my mom and grandma always making cakes, desserts and appetizers for all kinds of events. I would spend my time watching and trying to learn... Many years later here I am doing something I enjoy with the same amazing women. My grandma's dream as always been to open a Bakery... and that's my goal. One day I will have make that dream come true for her! Love you Mom and Grandma.
